Tungsten carbide is a kind of alloy material made by powder metallurgy process from hard compounds of refractory metals and bonded metals.
Tungsten carbide has a series of excellent properties, such as high hardness, wear resistance, good strength and toughness, heat resistance, corrosion resistance, etc., especially its high hardness and wear resistance, which remain basically unchanged even at 500 ~C, and still have high hardness at 1000 ~C.
Tungsten carbide is widely used as cutting tool materials, such as turning tools, milling cutters, planers, drills, boring cutters, etc. It is used to cut cast iron, non-ferrous metals, plastics, chemical fibers, graphite, glass, stone and ordinary steel. It can also be used to cut refractory materials such as heat-resistant steel, stainless steel, high manganese steel, tool steel, etc.
Tungsten carbide is not only used to make cutting tools, but also used to make various dies and moulds. The common moulds, measuring tools and special dies for pressing blades are also used.
The characteristics of cemented carbides are as follows:
High hardness (HV810 ~ HV1825, HV940 = HRC68);
It has good thermal hardness (up to 900 – 1000 C, maintaining 60HRC).
Good wear resistance.
The cutting speed of cemented carbide tool is 4-7 times higher than that of high speed steel, and the tool life is 5-80 times longer. The service life of mould and measuring tool is 20-150 times longer than that of alloy tool steel. It can cut hard material about 50HRC.
So many cemented carbide products, think of the hardness of cemented carbide so high! We just use grinding technology. However, the special-shaped carbide die has not yet been grinded, most of which are completed by electrical processing.
